I went to KW Mega Agent Camp this week and the word of the day was BLOGGING. They suggested we should add blogging to our agent websites. As you know, blogging does not work well if there is not good content. Should I or my staff allocate time and money to this? Is anyone doing it on their agent websites and if so what kind of traffic are you getting and how much is it costing you?

There are several free blogging sites you can go to, but the one I like best is ActiveRain.com. Here's an link invitation to join, it's free, http://activerain.com/action/referrals/dbritt and I do get credit (points) if you join using this link. I'm a fellow KW agent and have posted several posts on ActiveRain.com, my site is http://www.konzatrails.com. There is much to learn and many who will give great advice on ActiveRain.com. Let me know if I can be of any further assistance.
Thanks,
David

I also have my blog on my web site, http://www.heritage.net and http://www.davidlbritt.com. You can look at these as well for information. My http://www.heritage.net site is my KW site. Again, let me know if I can help.
My best to you,
David

You have to ask yourself:

1) What is the point of blogging on my site?

To get more traffic to your website would be an asnwer but, if you aren't using a website now and are getting great profitable results elsewhere..this isn't the market to be changing direction.

2) To increase my google organic search results?

The jury is still out on that one. Google may give more weight to sites with blogs but that could change over night.

Be careful with what ever is the current trend. Blogging is the current trend. I remember when having a moving truck with your pic on it was the trend etc. 4 Color glossy brochures, homes magazines, talking signs...all trends. Not saying that those things dont work only that they were 'trendy'.

If you goal is to get buyers/ sellers calling you the best way to do this is and always will be having loads of for sale signs. Jon, you know how to do that. After you have 20-30 listings then re-visit he web site/ blogging issue. Dont fool yourself into thinking that your blog or site will replace what you are already doing.

I'd say that if you've got the technical proficiency, it's OK, but the MOST you should be spending on it is an hour a week; if you are sound enough to rock it in an hour a week, great.

but it shouldn't /can't replace fundamentals.

We've written a blog since the first of the year. It's slowly becoming effective! We write a weekly article in our local paper which give us a ready source of material to use. If we didn't already do this I'd probably feel different about the time and effort necessary to maintain a blog. We link from our site but use google blogger to host our blog. It's very easy and very quick. We have started to acquire a local audience and have been quoted in newspaper articles as a local real estate expert. Maybe that's good or not?? check us out at http://www.experienceispriceless.blogspot.com
